Who we are
The Reflections Chamber Ensemble has been presenting chamber music from the 20th and 21st centuries to Tampa Bay audiences for over 20 years. We have commissioned new works, presented the music of young newcomers, and have staged well know masterworks such as Arnold Schoenberg’s Pierrot Lunaire. A commitment to presenting a wide variety of new music not often heard in concert has been our mission since our founding.
Why?
Because Music Speaks
“A poem cannot stop a bullet.
A novel can't defuse a bomb. But we are not helpless.
We can sing the truth and name the liars.”
Salman Rushdie
O King
A Tribute to Rev., Dr. Martin Luther King and his vision.
Our program, O King, celebrates the enduring vision and legacy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. At the heart of the concert is Luciano Berio’s moving tribute O King, composed while Berio was teaching at the Juilliard School and written in honor of Dr. King shortly after his assassination. The program also highlights the vibrant work of acclaimed American composer Valerie Coleman with her evocative Portraits of Langston, as well as powerful pieces by historically significant yet underrepresented composers Julia Perry and Margaret Bonds. We’re proud to include the beloved anthem Lift Every Voice and Sing by brothers James Weldon Johnson and J. Rosamond Johnson, a piece that continues to resonate deeply across generations. Rounding out the program is Simple Gifts by iconic American composer John Williams, a work performed at the 2009 inauguration of President Barack Obama. This program brings together a rich tapestry of voices and stories, united in a spirit of reflection, celebration, and hope.
